About Dorothy

Dorothy is a freelance home economist with over 20 years of experience working in the agri-food industry. She has worked for several commodity groups and agri-food associations (canola, pulse, wild boar, oats, mustard, greenhouse growers...) developing marketing and education programs, as well as resource materials.  She was a founding member of Saskatchewan Bounty, a joint commodity group interested in promoting Saskatchewan agriculture and food. Saskatchewan Bounty later became Growing Saskatchewan and Dorothy served as the editor of the Growing Saskatchewan magazine that was distributed in grocery stores across the province. Dorothy co-produced Encore, a culinary theatre experience that celebrated the goodness of Saskatchewan food and agriculture. She conceptualized Canola Camp, a foodwriter tour that teaches culinary professionals from around the world about canola oil. As the Executive Director of Cuisine Canada, she celebrated and promoted Canadian food through conferences and networking events. She has served as a cookbook judge for Cuisine Canada and the International Association of Culinary Professionals.  Dorothy and her husband, Peter operated a commercial greenhouse selling cucumbers, tomatoes and then bedding plants for over 15 years. Dorothy previously wrote a monthly food article for the Western Producer and is excited to be writing for the Producer again! Dorothy recently started a food blog called the Prairie Kitchen Companion - it can be found at http://prairiekitchencompanion.blogspot.ca. A prairie farm girl at heart and she still lives on her family's farm where she and her husband are raising two children, Kate and Josh. She likes nothing more then to share information about food, gardening and life!
